What
A child who is from 6 and a half years old to 7 and a half years old can be enrolled in the first grade after checking the readiness for school. If the child is older than 7 and a half years, and because of the illness or other reasons didn’t enrol in the first grade, he/she could be enrolled in the first grade or equivalent, based on previous knowledge assessment. In school for the education of pupils with disabilities, child will be enrolled based on the opinion of interdepartmental commission for assessing the need for additional educational, health and social assistance, with parents or guardians’ consent. Deadline for submission of application for child’s admission expires on February 1st of the calendar year, to be able to attend school from September 1st.
A foreign citizen or a stateless person and — shall be enrolled at school and shall have the right to education under the same conditions and in the manner prescribed by law for citizens of the Republic of Serbia. For those children, a school organizes language learning, preparation for teaching and supplementary teaching, according to special instruction issued by the Minister.
Steps
Step 1:
Documents needed for the School Secretariat:
- Birth certificate for child
- Certificate of attendance of preschool program
- Proof of medical examination of the child
- Proof of residence of the parent and child
Step 2:
You are required to bring your child to school as psychologist or pedagogue need to test him/her first. In the case that the opinion of a child psychologist is negative, in the sense that the child is not ready for school, support is provided to parents to overcome those problems, as well as the possibility of achieving certain rights of social protection.
Where
Choosing a school depends of the territory which is covered by the school area. Each primary school is obliged to enrol all future pupils from its area. There is a possibility for schools to enrol pupils from the area of some other schools, but only if parents request that and if schools have capacity for that.
