Contracts related to student work

What

There aren’t any law obstacles for a local students to conclude employment contract, but there are special conditions for foreign student employment. A local student can look for a job by himself or to register with the National Employment Service (NES) or a student union/youth cooperative service (SU/YOS).

Who

In accordance with the law regulations, a foreign student who has obtained work permit for employment (see more at work permit) has the right to conclude employment contract.

How

If you are a local student:
To join a SU/YOS, you have to open a bank account, to fill in the application form of the union and to pay the annual membership fee. During the application procedure you have to submit ID card and valid record book or certificate on regular studies. If a cooperative service finds a job for you and you conclude employment contract with them, the employer will pay in your salary to the cooperative service, and then they will transfer it to your account.
To become registered with the NES, if you are a permanent resident, you have to submit ID card for foreigners and validated diploma, or a passport and validated diploma if you are a temporary resident.

If you are a foreign student:
Your employer needs to get work  permit for employment for you. If you are a student, you can be employed, under the conditions stipulated for obtaining a work permit for emplyment, but during the time when you have lecture activities you are allowed to work no longer than 20 hours a week.

Good to know

Every year a student has to renew a membership in a SU and to bring evidence that he/she still fulfills the requirements. According to the regulations on YOS, a student should not be a member of the cooperative services at the same time.
